*  Oral glucose tolerance test:

This test measures your blood glucose after you have gone at least eight hours without eating and again two hours after you drink a glucose-containing beverage. You will be told to not eat or drink after midnight and report to the lab the next morning. The lab tech will draw blood and perhaps ask for a urine sample as well. Then he will ask you to drink a liquid that is very high in sugar (glucose). You will wait two hours and then the tech will draw blood and ask for a urine sample again. The results of the two tests are compared. This test is used to diagnose diabetes or pre-diabetes.

*  Random plasma glucose test:

In this test, your doctor has the lab check your blood glucose without having you fast. The results of this test, in conjunction with an assessment of

your symptoms, can be used to diagnose diabetes but not pre-diabetes.
